Gary Pallister at Manchester United (1989–1998) was the classic dominant centre-back: tall, quick across the ground, and brilliant in the air. Signed from Middlesbrough in 1989, he became a cornerstone of Sir Alex Ferguson’s first great title-winning side, forming a formidable partnership with Steve Bruce. He made 317 league appearances for United and won a huge haul, including four Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and the 1991 European Cup Winners’ Cup. Calm but tough, “Pally” was the reliable stopper who helped turn United into champions again.
