Diego Forlán at Manchester United (2002–2004) was a cult-hero spell more than a star turn. Signed in Jan 2002 for £6.9m, he found starts hard to come by in a squad led up front by Van Nistelrooy, but his moments were massive. The defining one is the Anfield double vs Liverpool in Dec 2002, which basically earned him lifelong fan affection (and the chant). In league terms he logged 63 Premier League games, 10 goals, and still collected winners’ medals for the 2002–03 Premier League and 2003–04 FA Cup.
