Steve Bruce at Manchester United (1987–1996) was the heart of Fergie’s first great side: a no-nonsense centre-back who led with voice, bravery, and big goals. He formed a rock-solid partnership with Gary Pallister, dominated aerially, and organised the defence before United had the “glamour” era of Rio/Vidic. Bruce captained the team to the first Premier League title in 1992–93 and was famous for popping up in huge moments—most iconic are his two late headers vs Sheffield Wednesday in April 1993, which practically dragged United toward the title. Reliable, commanding, and massively underrated in United history.
