At Manchester United, Ferguson turned Beckham from academy kid into a first-choice right midfielder, prized for elite crossing, set pieces and relentless work-rate. Together they won major honours, with Beckham a key piece of the 1998–99 Treble side. Their bond mixed trust with tough love: Ferguson’s “hairdryer” standards collided with Beckham’s growing celebrity. The flashpoint was the 2003 dressing-room “boot” incident after an FA Cup loss to Arsenal, leaving Beckham cut above the eye. That summer he was sold to Real Madrid, but both later spoke of enduring respect.
