Manuel Pellegrini’s Man City reign (2013–2016) was the “calm, classy bridge” from Mancini to Guardiola. He set City up to play smoother, more attacking football, leaning on Agüero’s finishing and the prime Silva/Yaya Touré axis. His peak was 2013–14: City won the Premier League and League Cup, with Yaya scoring loads from midfield and Aguero staying lethal. Europe was the lingering criticism early on, but he did deliver a club landmark by reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2015–16. He left with two League Cups and one league title.
