Gareth Barry’s Man City spell (2009–2014) was all about control and reliability. Signed from Aston Villa in June 2009 for a reported £12m, he became a steady midfield anchor—positionally smart, tidy passer, rarely flashy but constantly available. He was part of City’s first major breakthroughs, starting the 2011 FA Cup final win and playing 34 league games in the 2011–12 title season. In the league he posted 132 appearances and 6 goals for City, before leaving after an Everton loan became permanent.
