Martin Škrtel at Liverpool (2008–2016) was a warrior centre-back: aggressive, fearless, and happiest throwing himself into contact. Signed from Zenit, he became a mainstay for years, known for last-ditch blocks, bruising aerial duels, and a knack for popping up with crucial goals from set pieces. His peak season was 2013–14 under Brendan Rodgers, when he was immense in duels and scored regularly—most famously two headers vs Arsenal at Anfield. He wasn’t a silky ball-player and could be exposed by quick movement, but his commitment and toughness made him a Kop favourite. He left in 2016 with over 200 appearances and a reputation as one of the toughest defenders of his era.
