Phil Neal was one of Liverpool’s great, understated winners—a right-back who combined calm defending with huge end product. He played for Liverpool from 1974 to 1985, becoming a fixture in an era of relentless success. Neal is famously the club’s most prolific penalty-taker, scoring over 40 goals from the spot, and he also scored in two European Cup finals (1977 and 1984), a rare feat for a defender. He collected a mountain of trophies: multiple First Division titles, League Cups, and European Cups, and he set a then-club record with 417 consecutive appearances (all competitions), underlining his durability and consistency.
