Billy Liddell is one of Liverpool’s most important figures: a one-club legend who carried the team through the post-war decades. Playing from 1938–1961, he was a powerful, direct left-sided attacker with pace, strength, and a thunderous shot—so influential the side was often nicknamed “Liddellpool.” He scored 228 goals in 534 games, placing him among Liverpool’s all-time top scorers, and he was famous for dragging games back through sheer will and athleticism. Beyond football, he was admired for his humility and service (including RAF duty), becoming a symbol of the club’s identity before the Shankly revolution.
