Milan looked finished: Maldini scored early, then Crespo struck twice. After the break Liverpool exploded—Gerrard headed in, Šmicer drilled a long-range shot, and Alonso followed up his saved penalty to make it 3–3 in six frantic minutes. Milan still created huge chances in extra time, but Dudek produced a famous double save from Shevchenko. In the shootout, Dudek’s “spaghetti legs” helped Liverpool win 3–2 on pens, lifting their fifth European Cup.
