Gérard Houllier managed Liverpool from 1998 to 2004 and is remembered for restoring professionalism, fitness standards, and a winning mentality after a bumpy 90s. His peak was 2000–01, when Liverpool won a cup treble: League Cup, FA Cup, and UEFA Cup, plus the Charity Shield (and later the 2001 UEFA Super Cup). He built a tough, organised side around leaders like Sami Hyypiä and Jamie Carragher, with big-game moments from Michael Owen and others. League form was more uneven, but he laid key foundations for Liverpool’s modern revival.
