El Hadji Diouf at Liverpool (2002–2005) is mostly remembered as a big signing that never delivered. Fresh off a strong 2002 World Cup with Senegal, he arrived with hype and swagger, but on the pitch he struggled for consistent end product—more agitation than goals or assists. He played across the front line, worked hard at times, and had occasional flashes, but he never became the difference-maker Liverpool hoped for. What really defined his spell was the baggage: constant controversy, clashes, and a feeling that the attitude didn’t match the shirt. He left after loan spells, becoming one of the era’s most disappointing buys.
