Djibril Cissé at Liverpool (2004–2007) was a mix of electric talent and brutal misfortune. Signed from Auxerre for his pace and finishing, he suffered a horrific leg break on his league debut at Blackburn in October 2004, then fought back—only to break his other leg at Anfield in 2006. When fit, he offered blistering runs in behind and a rocket shot, but rhythm was constantly disrupted. His Liverpool legacy is still significant: he came off the bench in Istanbul 2005 and scored in the penalty shootout, then started the 2006 FA Cup final and scored twice (including a late equaliser) as Liverpool beat West Ham on pens.
