Peter Shilton was one of Leicester City’s greatest ever goalkeepers and one of the finest players the club has produced. Leicester-born, he came through the club’s youth system and made his first-team debut in May 1966 at just 16. He went on to make 286 league appearances for Leicester before leaving in 1974, establishing himself as an outstanding shot-stopper while still very young. During his spell, Leicester reached the 1969 FA Cup final and won promotion back to the First Division in 1970–71. Remarkably, Shilton even scored once for the club. He remains one of Leicester’s most distinguished homegrown figures.
