Riyad Mahrez was Leicester City’s main source of craft and unpredictability in the 2015–16 title-winning season. Operating from the right, he gave Claudio Ranieri’s side flair as well as end product, finishing the Premier League campaign with 17 goals and 11 assists. He could slow the game down, beat defenders one-on-one, then turn matches with a finish or final pass. While Vardy provided the speed in behind, Mahrez supplied the imagination that made Leicester more than just a counterattacking team. His influence was recognised with the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award, making him one of the defining figures of that remarkable title win.
