David O’Leary is a huge figure in Leeds United history mainly for his time as manager (1998–2002). After serving as George Graham’s assistant, he took charge and built an exciting, youthful side—packed with academy talent—playing sharp, high-energy football. His peak came in 2000–01, when Leeds reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, putting the club back among Europe’s elite. Domestically, Leeds stayed near the top end of the Premier League under him, but the club’s finances unraveled and results dipped, leading to his dismissal in 2002.
