Leeds United won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup twice, in 1968 and 1971, during the Don Revie era. In 1968, Leeds beat Ferencváros on aggregate, lifting their first major European trophy. They repeated the feat in 1971, defeating Juventus over two legs. Captained by Billy Bremner, the wins underlined Leeds’ status as a major European force, with Elland Road becoming a feared venue on continental nights. The Fairs Cup is seen as the forerunner to the UEFA Cup/Europa League.
