Willie Waddell is one of Kilmarnock’s most important figures, managing the club from 1957 to 1965. He built the best side in Killie’s history, finishing league runners-up four times in the early 1960s and reaching several cup finals before finally landing the big one. His crowning achievement was winning Kilmarnock’s only Scottish top-flight title (1964–65), clinched with a 2–0 win away to Hearts on the final day and decided on goal average (by a famously tiny margin).
