Gordon Hunter was a durable, no-nonsense defender who became one of Hibernian’s most dependable players of the 1980s and 1990s. A centre-back and right-back, he spent 14 seasons at Easter Road, making 409 appearances for the club and earning a testimonial in 1996. He was part of the Hibs side that won the 1991 Scottish League Cup, and he is especially remembered for scoring the winner in a 1–0 Edinburgh derby victory at Tynecastle in August 1994, ending Hearts’ 22-match unbeaten derby run. Hunter remains a strong symbol of commitment and longevity in modern Hibs history.
