Paul Hanlon was one of Hibernian’s modern mainstays: an Edinburgh-born defender who came through the club’s academy, debuted in January 2008 and spent 17 years at Easter Road. He became known for consistency rather than flash, growing into a reliable left-sided centre-back and eventually club captain. Hanlon was part of the side that won the 2016 Scottish Cup and the 2016–17 Championship, and Hibs credited him with 535 appearances by July 2023; club posts later marked his total at 565 before his 2024 exit. He is remembered as a boyhood Hibee, leader and long-serving symbol of the club.
