Hibernian won the 1972–73 Scottish League Cup, one of the major achievements of Eddie Turnbull’s “Turnbull’s Tornadoes” side. The final took place at Hampden Park on 9 December 1972, where Hibs defeated Celtic 2–1. Goals from Alex Edwards and Eddie May secured the victory, with Hibs producing an energetic, attacking display against a dominant Celtic team of that era. The win was significant as it marked Hibs’ first major trophy since the 1950s and validated Turnbull’s exciting young team, featuring players like Pat Stanton, Arthur Duncan and John Brownlie. It also set the foundation for Hibs’ strong league performances in the early 1970s, including their famous 7–0 derby win over Hearts just weeks later.
