Steven Pressley joined Hearts in 1998 (a Bosman move) and became a cornerstone of the side for the next eight years, making 271 appearances and scoring 19 goals. A commanding centre-back, he was appointed club captain in 2001–02 and became one of Hearts’ longest-serving skippers, leading them through big European nights and consistent top-end finishes. His defining moment was lifting the 2006 Scottish Cup as captain, winning on penalties after a 1–1 final with Gretna.
