Henry Smith was one of Hearts’ greatest goalkeepers and a major figure in the club’s strong 1980s and early-1990s sides. He spent 15 years at Tynecastle from 1981 to 1996, making 476 league appearances for Hearts, with club records elsewhere listing him as the record appearance holder among Hearts goalkeepers. He was an outstanding shot-stopper, known for reflex saves and big-match reliability, and he helped Hearts challenge near the top of Scottish football during one of their best modern periods. Smith also won 3 Scotland caps while at Hearts and was part of the Euro 92 squad. He was inducted into the Hearts Hall of Fame in 2009, which reflects his standing at the club.
