Walter Kidd was one of Hearts’ great servants and a classic no-nonsense full-back. He joined the club in 1977 and became a fixture on the right side of the defence for well over a decade, playing 544 matches in a maroon shirt and scoring 15 goals, with 462 competitive appearances and 9 competitive goals listed by the club. He was known for tough tackling, reliability, and total commitment rather than glamour, which made him a favourite at Tynecastle. Kidd played through an important era for Hearts, including the strong mid-1980s side, and his loyalty was later recognised with induction into the club’s Hall of Fame.
