Harry Catterick was the architect of Everton’s 1960s golden stretch: a calm, modern-thinking manager who mixed tactical discipline with flair. Appointed in 1961, he quickly delivered the 1962–63 league title, then built another champion side that won the 1966 FA Cup (with that famous comeback final) and the 1969–70 First Division title. He nurtured stars like Alan Ball and shaped the “Holy Trinity” midfield era, while introducing sharper training and sports-science ideas for the time. Health issues later forced him to step away in 1973.
