Geoff Hurst for England was big-match immortality with real substance beyond it. He is remembered first for 1966, and rightly so: 49 caps, 24 goals, and still the only man to score a hat-trick in a men’s World Cup final, doing it as England beat West Germany 4–2 after extra time at Wembley on 30 July 1966. But he was more than one match. Hurst gave England sharp movement, intelligent link play, and a striker’s instinct for decisive moments, also helping them finish third at Euro 1968. His England legacy is simple: not just a hero of the greatest day, but one of the country’s defining forwards.
