Joe Cole for England was flair, imagination, and a sense of talent that was never fully maximised. He won 56 caps and scored 10 goals between 2001 and 2010, featuring at Euro 2004 and the 2002, 2006, and 2010 World Cups. At his best, he gave England something rare for that era: dribbling in tight spaces, improvisation, and the ability to make attacks feel less rigid. His standout international moment was probably that brilliant volley against Sweden at the 2006 World Cup, a goal that captured both his technique and imagination. So his England legacy feels slightly bittersweet: a genuinely gifted player who still had a very good international career, but always left the feeling there could have been even more.
