Ashley Cole played 107 times for England (2001–2014), making him one of the country’s most-capped players and widely regarded as England’s best modern left-back. He combined elite 1v1 defending with pace, recovery runs, and strong overlap support, which made him crucial against top right-wing threats. Cole featured in three World Cups (2002, 2006, 2010) and two Euros (2004, 2012), and was a mainstay of the “golden generation” back line. His England career ended after the 2014 World Cup, when he retired from international football.
