England’s 1966 men’s World Cup winners were built on organisation, discipline, and big-game moments. Managed by Alf Ramsey, they topped their group (Uruguay, Mexico, France) without losing, using a compact system Ramsey called the “wingless wonders.” England then beat Argentina 1–0 in the quarter-final (Geoff Hurst), Portugal 2–1 in the semi-final (two Bobby Charlton goals), and West Germany 4–2 after extra time in the Wembley final. The match finished 2–2 after 90 minutes; Hurst scored twice in extra time to complete a hat-trick, with Martin Peters also on the scoresheet. Captain Bobby Moore lifted the trophy.
