Geoff Thomas was one of Crystal Palace’s most important modern captains. He joined from Crewe Alexandra in 1987 and quickly became a driving force in midfield, winning the supporters’ player of the year award in his first season. He captained Palace to their first-ever FA Cup final in 1990 and was central to the outstanding 1990–91 side that finished third in the top flight, still one of the club’s greatest league seasons. Thomas made 249 appearances for Palace before leaving in 1993, and he remains a highly respected figure at Selhurst Park.
