John Salako was a key Crystal Palace winger from the late 1980s into the mid-1990s. Palace’s own history highlights him as a major part of the side that won promotion in 1988–89, reached the 1990 FA Cup Final, and won the 1991 Zenith Data Systems Cup, the club’s first major trophy. He made 215 league appearances and scored 22 league goals for Palace between 1986 and 1995. Fast, skilful and direct, he gave the team width and flair, and his form also earned him five England caps in 1991, all while at Palace. He remains one of the most recognisable wide players in the club’s modern history.
