Ian Holloway had a short but dramatic spell as Crystal Palace manager from November 2012 to October 2013. He took over after Dougie Freedman’s departure and led Palace to promotion to the Premier League through the 2013 Championship play-offs, beating Watford 1–0 after extra time in the final at Wembley. He is mainly remembered at Palace for delivering that promotion under difficult circumstances. His time in the Premier League was brief, though, and he left by mutual consent after a poor start to the 2013–14 season. Even so, his role in getting Palace back to the top flight makes him an important figure in the club’s modern history.
