Steve Coppell is one of the most important managers in Crystal Palace history. Appointed in 1984 at just 28, he became the youngest manager in the Football League at the time. He led Palace to promotion in 1989, took them to their first FA Cup Final in 1990, then guided the club to third place in the top flight in 1990–91, still one of Palace’s greatest seasons. That same campaign also brought the Full Members’ Cup. Coppell had four separate spells in charge of Palace, which underlines how closely he is tied to the club’s identity. He is widely seen as one of the key architects of modern Crystal Palace.
