Jim Cannon is one of Crystal Palace’s greatest-ever players and still the club’s record appearance holder. Palace’s official site describes him as a club legend, noting that his career in south London spanned 16 seasons and 660 matches. A tough, committed centre-half, he played for Palace from 1973 to 1988 and captained the side for around a decade, becoming the symbol of loyalty and resilience through changing periods for the club. He was not the flashiest player, but he embodied Palace’s fighting spirit. Because of his longevity, leadership and record-breaking service, Cannon remains one of the most respected names in the club’s history.
