Mateo Kovačić is a press-resistant, ball-carrying midfielder who’s made a career out of escaping pressure, driving through the middle, and keeping tempo with clean passing. After breaking out at Dinamo Zagreb, he moved through Inter and Real Madrid—winning multiple major honours including three Champions Leagues there—then became a key technician at Chelsea (including a Champions League win in 2021). He joined Manchester City in summer 2023 on a deal widely reported around £30m and has been used as a controller/connector in Guardiola’s rotation. In 2025 he had Achilles surgery that ruled him out of the Club World Cup.
