Virgil van Dijk joined Celtic from Groningen in 2013 and quickly established himself as one of the best defenders in Scottish football. Calm, powerful, and elegant on the ball, he became central to Celtic’s defence under Neil Lennon and Ronny Deila. Over two seasons, he made 114 appearances and scored 15 goals, helping the club win two Premiership titles and the 2015 League Cup. His commanding style and ability to start attacks from the back drew attention from England, leading to his £11.5 million move to Southampton in 2015. Van Dijk’s Celtic spell launched his rise to world-class status.
