Stiliyan Petrov arrived at Celtic from CSKA Sofia in 1999 and grew into a key midfielder in the 2000s. After a difficult settling-in period, he became an energetic all-action player under Martin O’Neill, valued for his engine, distribution, and leadership. He played more than 300 games for the club, scored over 60 goals, won multiple domestic trophies, and was part of the squad that reached the 2003 UEFA Cup final. A popular figure who later wore the captain’s armband, he was named Scotland’s players’ player of the year in 2001. He moved to Aston Villa in 2006.
