Wilfried Nancy was appointed Celtic manager in December 2025, joining from Columbus Crew with a reputation for dynamic, possession-based football. Expectations were high, but his tenure quickly unraveled. Early defeats to Hearts and Roma, followed by a League Cup final loss to St Mirren, set the tone for a disastrous run. Celtic then endured four straight league defeats, including an Old Firm loss to Rangers, marking their worst sequence since 1978. After just eight matches and 33 days in charge, Nancy was dismissed in January 2026, the shortest managerial spell in the club’s history. Martin O’Neill returned as interim manager.
