In November 2008, Diego Maradona brought the Argentina squad to train at Celtic Park ahead of their friendly against Scotland. During the session, a piece of jewellery (widely reported as Fernando Gago’s medallion/crucifix) went missing on the Parkhead pitch, sparking a frantic search. A young ball boy, Adam Brown, helped find it and Maradona famously hugged/lifted him in thanks. As part of the visit, Maradona was also presented with a Celtic F.C. shirt—creating the iconic “Maradona holding the hoops” image.
