Simon Francis was a key defender and captain in Bournemouth’s rise from League One to the Premier League. He joined on loan from Charlton in November 2011, made the move permanent in January 2012, and went on to play 324 matches in all competitions for the club. He was central to promotion from League One in 2012–13 and then the Championship title win in 2014–15, before captaining Bournemouth in the Premier League. After retiring in 2020, he returned to the club off the pitch and was promoted to first-team technical director in 2024. He is remembered as one of the defining leaders of Bournemouth’s modern era.
