Tommy Elphick was a key defender and captain in Bournemouth’s rise under Eddie Howe. He joined from Brighton in 2012, quickly became club captain, and helped lead the Cherries to promotion from League One in 2012–13 and then to the Premier League for the first time by winning the 2014–15 Championship title. In that title season he played all 46 league matches, captaining the side throughout, and later won the supporters’ player of the year award. Across his Bournemouth spell he made 142 league appearances. He is remembered as a tough, committed leader and one of the defining captains of Bournemouth’s modern history.
