Paul Tait was a proper Birmingham City cult hero: a Sutton Coldfield-born midfielder who came through the club and spent 1988–1999 in the first team, making 170 league appearances (14 goals). He debuted at 16 and became a familiar face through the 90s. His defining Blues moment came at Wembley in April 1995, when he scored the extra-time “golden goal” winner in the Football League Trophy final against Carlisle—Birmingham won 1–0.
