Tyrone Mings is a powerful, left-sided centre-back who’s been a major figure for Aston Villa since arriving on loan in January 2019 and then signing permanently from Bournemouth in July 2019 (fee widely reported in the £20m–£25m range). He was named Villa captain in August 2021 after Jack Grealish left, before losing the armband in 2022 under Steven Gerrard (John McGinn became captain). Mings’ recent story is his long layoff: he suffered an ACL injury on the opening day of 2023–24 and returned in October 2024, giving Villa an experienced, dominant aerial option again.
