John McGinn has been one of Aston Villa’s key signings of the modern era. He joined from Hibernian in August 2018, became a mainstay in midfield, and was central to Villa’s promotion push and then establishing the club back in the Premier League. Known for his ball-carrying, pressing, and that low centre of gravity, he’s also chipped in with important goals (including some long-range hits). He’s worn the captain’s armband regularly and, under Unai Emery, has often been used tactically in different midfield/wing roles while remaining a core leader in the squad.
