Alex Song’s Arsenal spell (2005–2012) was a slow-burn success story. Initially raw and error-prone, he grew into a smart, athletic holding midfielder under Wenger—strong in tackles, good at carrying the ball, and increasingly influential in build-up. His signature weapon became the clipped, vertical pass from deep (often releasing runners early), and he formed a solid platform alongside Cesc Fàbregas in Arsenal’s best late-2000s sides. Song was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2011–12, then left for Barcelona in 2012. Remembered as a late bloomer who turned into a top-level all-round midfielder at his peak.
