Robert Pirès was Arsenal’s silk on the left from 2000 to 2006: elegant, clever, and devastating in the final third. Under Wenger he became the perfect wide playmaker—starting from the flank, drifting inside, combining with Bergkamp and Henry, and arriving late to score. Pirès mixed grace with ruthless output, regularly hitting double figures and making Arsenal’s attack feel effortless. He was vital to the 2001–02 Double and the 2003–04 Invincibles, and his 2001–02 season in particular was elite—goals, assists, and constant control of big games. An ACL injury in 2002 briefly slowed him, but he returned to remain a key figure. Pure Highbury class.
