Emmanuel Petit’s Arsenal spell (1997–2000) was short but hugely influential. A left-footed midfielder with bite and elegance, he partnered Patrick Vieira to form a powerful, balanced engine room—Petit screening the back four, winning duels, and pinging long diagonals, while also stepping into tackles with authority. He was vital to Wenger’s first great side, helping Arsenal win the 1997–98 Double (Premier League + FA Cup). Petit’s defining image is bursting forward to score Arsenal’s third in the 1998 FA Cup final against Newcastle, sealing the Double. He left for Barcelona in 2000, but his blend of steel and technique made him a fan favourite in just three seasons.
