David O’Leary was Arsenal’s model of consistency: a classy, composed centre-back who played for the club from 1975 to 1993 and became their record appearance-maker (722 games). Elegant on the ball and positionally superb, he read danger early rather than relying on rash tackling, often acting like a sweeper in the back line. O’Leary grew into a leader at Highbury, captaining the side and setting standards through reliability and calm authority. He won the FA Cup in 1979, the League Cup in 1987, and league titles in 1989 and 1991, before leaving for Leeds United in 1993.
