Martin Keown was Arsenal’s fierce, uncompromising centre-back across three spells, most importantly from 1993 to 2004. Quick, aggressive and mentally relentless, he was the snarling enforcer alongside Tony Adams’ authority—brilliant in 1v1 duels, front-foot defending, and big-match intensity. Keown became a key part of the famous Wenger-era back line, winning three Premier League titles (1998, 2002, 2004) and three FA Cups (1993, 1998, 2002). His most iconic moment is that raw celebration in 2003 after clearing off the line and then confronting Ruud van Nistelrooy at Old Trafford—pure Arsenal edge. A defender who set the tone.
