Olivier Giroud’s “scorpion kick” is the outrageous back-heeled volley he scored for Arsenal against Crystal Palace at the Emirates on 1 January 2017. Alexis Sánchez’s cross drifted slightly behind him, so Giroud improvised: he leaned forward and flicked his left heel up and over his head, sending the ball in off the underside of the crossbar to make it 1–0 (Arsenal won 2–0). It instantly went viral and later won the 2017 FIFA Puskás Award for goal of the year.
